What happens when you drop a perfectly balanced stack of balls? And how is the result like a supernova? The classic momentum transfer demonstration, taken to the next level.
A big thank you to my nephews and niece Drew, Max and Whitney for creating the trampoline footage!
Thank you to the Vlogbrothers for sponsoring this video, to Kyle Kitzmiller for filming, and to Island School on Kauai for providing the balls (ischool.org).

The dude holding the balls: Okay, so you just want me to hold balls for your video? Okay… Don't try this, it took years of practice to balance these. You can still try this at home.

04.09.2023How the horizontal velocity of a ball varies when it collides with the ground? I couldn't find enough information online about this. Obviously it depends on the friction, angular velocity of the ball and the coefficient of restitution of the surface. Ignoring air resistance, is there any equation to find the horizontal velocity of a ball after collision for a given horizontal velocity before collision, angular velocity, coefficient of frictions and coefficient of restitution. Somebody can you help? Is this so complicated?

03.09.2023Diana – this is even easier to explain if you say the basketball is bouncing back up at the tennis ball, so the relative speed is higher. then you have to do a reference frame shift: the floor isn't moving, but the basketball is – so you have to add this speed to the rebound of the tennis ball. the end result is the tennis ball is effectively bounding at 3 times the speed. Then you add the superball….

03.09.2023I thought you were going to explain why a lot (most?) of the larger balls energy gets transferred into the smaller object though. Like with the three balls the basketball almost stopped after the bounce – why is it so – why couldn't it go up a little more and the golf ball a bit less? I guess it's to do with the masses, the ratios between the masses? What happens if they're not touching as they fall so if you drop the top ball some milliseconds after the bottom ball (using just 2 balls) would you get the same effect? Or is the effect lost because they're not touching when the bottom ball is bouncing/compressing? I feel like this is incomplete.

26.08.2023A bola subiu 8 vezes mais no segundo salto, portanto aumentou 700% e não 800% – não esperava um erro básico destes da Physics Girl…
A conta a fazer é (336-42)/42*100%=700% !
Note que quando alguma coisa passou para o dobro, não aumentou 200%, aumentou 100%!
